Release Schedule Change: “Theoria” Coming This Halloween

Out of respect for Amanda “Mandarr” Wearstler, Rasputin Catamite: Twin Freaks, will be postponed until at least December. Mandarr’s cat Mochi is missing and she’s been frantically looking for her furbaby this week. Any information about Mochi’s whereabouts would be greatly appreciated. Please refer to this Facebook post for more details.

Comics are less important than the well-being of our team members and their families, so I want to be very mindful of Mandarr’s time and emotional space, as she deal with this painful ordeal. Instead, you will see her cover art this Halloween on a collaboration between K. M. Claude and I entitled, The Serpent with its first installment, “Theoria.” It’s pretty intense and it’s rated for age 17+ audiences due to graphic depictions of adult situations and violence. It was originally slated for February 14th next year, but Claude and I agreed that we were ready to share this with our readers now in order to make up for this delay.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding.

It’s Friday the 13th!

Today is Friday the 13th, and I am rather sick. I was looking forward to doing my local 24-hour Comic Day event, instead I’m stuck here at home with the flu. I have been doodling around in my sketchbook. While doing so,  I found an old drawing that I made at Chapel Con of Irina. I am trying to post from the WordPress app so I’m not sure how it’s going to look once it’s on the website, but there you go.

On sad news, there is a possibility that the next installment of Rasputin Catamite is going to be delayed. Amanda has been frantically searching for her beloved kitty Mochi, and as a result hasn’t been able to work on the cover for now. On the bright side, the final edit requests have been sent to Ram, right on schedule.

I hope that you are all doing well today my Velveties, and that tomorrow treat you well.

Happy Coming Out Day!

Dima's Bi-VampireHello my Velveties,

Here’s a clip from May Day to help commemorate National Coming Out Day! It features Dima coming out as bisexual in a time and place in history where the the word, “bisexual” didn’t even exist in the Russian language without being a horrifyingly offensive synonym for “hermaphrodite.” These days word finally exists, but for many people, it’s still REALLY hard to come out.

As for me, my current sexual orientation is simultaneously “I don’t give a fuuuuuuck,” and “meh.” When you’re monogamously married, non-binary, and your sex drive is petering out with age, it’s really hard to pin down exactly what sexual orientation even means in this context. I suppose the most concise answer would be “queer demisexual,” but kids these days often think that the Q word is offensive, so I’ll just stick to praying, drawing and getting flogged every once in a while.

Whatever you are, do your best to be kind to yourself and be honest about who you are.

How Did Ram Do It? (Featuring a Preview From Twin Freaks)

When we posted the image below on Twitter, we got the following  question from @monkeycomics:

That does look like old film footage. How did you get it to do that?

Ram’s answer:

In photoshop-
Top layer: a hue/saturation filter set to sepia tone with +20 lightness
2nd: a ‘spotlight’ style film texture set to multiply and sized to each panel to darken the edges
3rd: content
4th: a film scratch texture that shows through the blank spots

Having a texture above the content and a texture below is the secret ingredient- lets you make it feel strongly textured without interfering with the legibility of the images.

Fun at Fall Comicon!

Greetings gangs,

To everyone who stopped at my table and bought Velvet Rasputin stuff, thank you so much! It was really fun to engage with new fans and old friends alike. I shared lots of cool pictures up on the Velvet Rasputin Facebook page, so be sure to check them out here and here! I also have them at Instagram if that’s more your style. I am extremely tired from all the doodle hooping (as seen on the video below,) and convention-related stuff, but I am back home in Rice, and looking forward to another week of Velvety goodness.

Bye my Velveties,

Vas at MCBA Fall Comicon + Grand Reopening!

Irina Cosplay

Hello my Velveties,

Welcome to the brand spanking new Vas Littlecrow’s Velvet Rasputin website. I’m so excited to share it with you. There’s lots of stuff happening in this newest incarnation of our collective from the team and I. Here are some of the highlights.

I really hope that you enjoy our hard work, as much as I am enjoying my newly found health!

If you’re anywhere near the Minnesota State Fairgrounds tomorrow, do stop by my table at MCBA Fall Comicon to say hello, and to buy print editions of our comics (which I will happily sign.) If you’re feeling brave, $20 will get you a quick caricature done while I hula hoop at the same time! Be sure not to miss this.

I hope to see you there my weird little muffins.

Velvet Rasputin is now VAS Littlecrow’s Velvet Rasputin!

With prompting of Loki Kaspari and Ram Lama, as well feedback from the rest of the creative team, Velvet Rasputin is now VAS Littlecrow’s Velvet Rasputin. I will confess that I was super uncomfortable with idea due to my intense dislike for the limelight. However, both my husband and my lead collaborator talked me into changing our brand into something more personal and that reflects the fact that these endeavors are the result of my creative vision and mental processing.

With the help of Gnomie Johnson, we’ve created a cheeky new logo, featuring Irina the Vampire Eater from Polska, Sucka! and Rasputin Catamite. We also have a new site format and zest for creativity that we hope you’ll enjoy. Did I also mention that our webcomics are back? They are going to be released as full books rather than weekly installments, for a simpler binge reading experience.
