Foodie Friday: Brownberry Healthfull Bread

An actual slice...

Disclosure: I am a BzzAgent and they sent me a free coupon to try this lovely bread at no cost.  My husband and I have eaten other loaves from the Brownberry line before.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.

My husband and I had the opportunity to try Brownberry Healthfull 10 grain bread. Loki is a bread-maniac who crafts his own and often splurges on artisan loaves.  Not surprisingly, he is very hard to please. I don’t eat a ton of bread myself, but I enjoy homemade jams and peanut butter banana sandwiches and I like to eat a few slices here and there.

The first thing we noticed about Healthfull bread was how substantial it was. The flavor of molasses paired with delicious grains made it hearty and satisfying. The bread itself was soft and fresh tasting. It also toasts beautifully. Commercial bread crusts never seem to match the texture of homemade, and unfortunately Healthfull was no exception. Having said that, Healthfull is of much higher quality than the average loaf and is absolutely perfect for families who lack the time to make their own.

Although I am not to thrilled with the fact that this bread has seven types of sweeteners, I am completely thrilled that three of them were molasses, raisin juice and stevia, rather than high-fructose corn syrup or synthetics like aspartame. Many of the ingredients include isolates or are not readable by average folks.  The majority were natural ingredients or nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. People interested in organic diets may also want to be aware that this product is probably made with conventional agricultural methods.

After trying Healthfull, I called my mom to tell her about the loveliness of the loaf.  As we spoke, she revealed to me that this is the only commercial bread she buys.  Like my husband, my mom is something of a bread maniac.  She makes her own sourdough and she creates a ton of experimental loaves.  If two hardcore artisan bread loves can agree on Healthfull, then Brownberry (a.k.a. Oroweat and  Arnold in other parts of the United States) must be doing something very right.  Keep up the good work Healthfull team!

I recommend Brownberry Healthfull for people who want to eat more grains with less calories with a bonafide mom-approval.  On that note, I will leave you with a delicious recipe for a Brownberry Healthfull Chicken Curry Salad Sandwich.  Enjoy lunch!
