Daily Doodles: Huracan Matutino

On November 30, 2011 by Vas

My business is heavily reliant on politics since they truly are my main source material for comics, art and much of my other content.  After taking a news fast to cleanse myself of informational overload,  I came to a realization.  I need tension for my art to happen. Art is the voice I use when normal communication fails me.  It has been from the time I was a nonverbal autistic. When everything makes sense, it ceases to be functional.

I actually dread picking up so much as a pencil when everything is ship shape, as I’d rather do nothing but cook, do statistical analysis and look for ways to save money. Since my life is exactly as I want it, is finally devoid of bad stress and is depression-free, the only thing that gets my chaos on is the news and history. So, I’d rather be political than miserable, confused or angry. The news is my morning hurricane and I sway to its winds like a palm tree.

As a clergy, I have to understand what the people I am ministering to are up against in a very confusing world. It’s one thing to tell someone, “God will take care of everything,” when they that individual is already questioning their entire existence, talents, and a being that seems implausible. It’s a lot more comforting to say, “Hey, you’re not the only one having a horrible time with the economy. People are hurting with you. You are not alone, and it’s okay if you don’t get the job you went to college for. Many others face your plight. You are blessed with many talents and God will take care of things through them. It might take time, but you will find a way.”

Everyone’s business works differently. Everyone’s passion is different. Mine is the triad of politics and food as element of art that I create as part of my spiritual mission.
