Foodie Friday: Spotlight on CnC Foods
At the St. Cloud, MN Art Crawl, I had the opportunity to meet the most divine artist. Charity Kauder, owner of CnC Food, hails from Albany, MN. She displayed her work at the Provincial Market. Surprisingly, her medium wasn’t digital, paper, canvas or performance; it happened to be food.
Charity makes lovely artisan breads and beautiful cookies that are fresh and completely satisfying. The slices of bread and cookies I sampled were absolutely delectable. The Neapolitans, gorgeous cookies with perfect stripes of chocolate, vanilla nut and almond were especially charming to my palate. My husband, a bread snob who insists on hand grinding his wheat berries that his family’s farm grows, seemed as impressed with her breads as I was.
Charity’s loaves are substantial without being overly heavy. When I spoke to Charity, she was able to tell about the people who grew or crafted each one of her ingredients. The aroma of yeast, spices and flour attested to her skill. This baker obviously strives to create absolutely perfect loaves, and succeeds brilliantly. He biggest seller, the Jalapeno Cheddar bread, looked about as beautiful as the loaves I saw in New Mexico. It’s definitely not something I expected to see in Stearns County.
Enjoy CnC Foods’ artisan breads and cookies at Provincial Market on 822 St. Germain Street in St Cloud, every Friday. You will not be disappointed, and the community there definitely needs to encourage more of this type of local gourmet gorgeousness.
